The Lowdown on Eyelash Extensions

What are eyelash extensions?

Professional therapists glue individual lashes to the base of your natural eyelash using semi-permanent adhesive. Dependent on the look you are going for, these lashes can be added to all of your eyelashes or just a select few. You have the ability to tailor your style by choosing the length, finish and colour of the individual lashes that are applied. A half set of extensions gives a more subtle, fanned out look. While a full set will provide a glamorous, more dramatic style.

Will my natural lashes get damaged? 

The adhesive used by our therapists is specially formulated not to be irritating to the eye and also not to damage the natural lash underneath.

How do I remove eyelash extensions?

Your natural lashes are on an 8 week cycle in which they fall out and then grow back. Therefore the lash extension attached to your natural lash also falls out with your cycle. All of your lashes are on different cycles so you will usually need infills, or a new set of extensions, after around 10-12 weeks.

If you prefer to get all your lashes removed at the same time, your therapist can dissolve the adhesive using a safe and gentle formulation.

What are infills?

Infills are less expensive than a new set of eyelash extensions, they are just filling in the gaps where some of the lash extensions have fallen out. Infills will prolong your extensions and keep your eyelashes looking fuller for longer. We recommend getting infills every 3-4 weeks to maintain your eyelash extensions.

What is the eyelash extension technique?

Your lash technician will discuss with you the type of look you want to achieve, dependent on your natural lashes.

They will then apply your extensions while you lie on your back with your eyes closed. The appointment will last up to 2 hours, depending on the look you decide to go for. After the treatment, be sure to avoid water for 2 hours. For the next 24 hours try to limit the amount of moisture around your eyes to ensure that the lashes to settle into place.

How do I look after my eyelash extensions?

Perfect eyelashes can last for a number of weeks if you pay attention to their upkeep. Avoid using oil based eye-makeup remover or waterproof mascara as these can dissolve the adhesive used to glue the extensions to your natural lashes. Also try not to touch your lashes too much as the oils on your fingers can do the same damage. Steer clear of wearing eye masks or being over vigorous with lash curlers to avoid disrupting the lash bed and causing premature shedding. If you do want to wear mascara with your extensions, try to limit your use to the tips of the lashes. This will add a dramatic effect without disturbing the joint between the natural lash and the extension.

This is the easiest way to glam up before a holiday or big event, or if you’re lacking in time in your everyday life.

LVL Enhance

LVL stands for length, volume, lift. It is an alternative to traditional lash extensions, enhancing your natural lashes with no need for falsies. During the process your lashes are straightened at the root to create the effect of longer, lifted lashes. This, combined with an eyelash tint, gives you perfect, party ready lashes from the moment you wake up. LVL eliminates the need for mascara and will typically last for 6-8 weeks. The process can take  as little as 40 minutes to complete, and is a quick and easy way to enhance your eyes.

LVL or eyelash extensions – which is for me? 

If you are naturally blessed with beautiful thick and long lashes then LVL is a good choice for quickly enhancing your eyes with very little upkeep. If you feel your lashes need a little more help with volume and length, then eyelash extensions will provide a dramatic and full lash line. However, you must be prepared to take care of your extensions.

How much does it cost?

Secret Spa offers a bespoke, luxury eyelash extension experience starting at £75 for either a half set or infills.  A full set of eyelash extensions costs £120. We also provide the Nouveau LVL service in the comfort of your own home for £60.
