The key beauty trends from London Fashion Week you need to know about
27 Sept 2021
London Fashion Week is as important a period for beauty as it is for fashion. Bringing with it exciting new hair, make-up and nail trends, next season is all about accessorised hair, natural make-up with a pop of colour and playful French manicures.
We were backstage at the shows from RIXO to Rejina Pyo, offering everything from 70s swirls to tonal mani / pedis. Our therapists are well-placed backstage to discover the latest beauty trends for SS22 fresh off the catwalk.
We’ve rounded up the best LFW beauty trends, as well as advice from our top therapists on how to recreate the looks at home. From hair styling and make-up to nails, think of us as your Fashion Week fairy godmother!
4 key SS22 make-up trends
We loved how versatile the make-up trends were at LFW. From minimalist, dewy complexions to statement hot pink eyes these are the make-up trends that will be everywhere in 2022.:

Colour blocking
Colour blocking is a huge trend next season across fashion and beauty. It’s time to leaveyour comfort zone and experiment with some bold colours. Accent eyes were seen across the catwalk at the likes of Anna Sui and Prabal Gurung. At Bora Aksu, make-up artist Janeen Witherspoon opted for fuschia pink eye shadow dusted over the models’ eyes and cheeks. Eyeshadow is an easyr way to inject more colour into your style.
Want to try the look yourself? Secret Spa Make-up Artist, Alexandra C, gave us some crucial advice: “Pink can be an intimidating colour to wear on the eye (without feeling like Avril Lavigne circa 2006). For a soft and sultry look, pack on your eyeshadow with a dense synthetic brush across the lid. Then blend out the edges with a neutral shadow (gold or copper look great with pink for an evening glam) and a fluffier brush. For a bolder, sassier style add lashings of mascara and black kohl eyeliner.
“Pro tip: if you're new to bold eyes then opt for a softer colour, or a shadow with less pigment. You can tell if a shadow has less pigment by swatching it on your hand”.
Dewy complexions
Sometimes simplicity is key. There is nothing fresher than a natural, glowing complexion. Helen Anthony chose to elevate the look by adding a flash of bright blush to each model. Peaches, pinks and reds were used to make the models’ skin tones pop.

The wet look
Take dewy to the next levelby taking inspiration from David Koma’s ‘wet look’ from LFW. Models donned glossy features, with their highpoints accentuated to create a flattering facial structure. Hair styles reflected this with side partings and fridges secured in place with an air of ‘I’ve just been caught in a downpour’. We’re so glad that we can call this look high fashion!

Double winged liner
Raise your eyeliner game by recreating this feline flick seen at RIXO’s LFW presentation. First, create a classic black wing. Then take a liquid liner in a vibrant colour and underline the first flick. RIXO used an electric blue for their double wing. Keep the rest of your make-up minimal and let your eyes do the talking!
Secret Spa Make-up Artist, Annie-Mae D, gives her top tips for creating the perfect wing: “Start by drawing the line on the eyeline. Bring it as close to the lash line as possible. Start thinner at first as you can always build up! Use a thin angled brush to help to get a smooth line. When creating the wing, angle it upwards towards the tail end of your eyebrow. Then connect the two lines back up. You can clean it up with concealer afterwards to make it more sharp!”

3 hottest SS22 hair looks
We love the effortless hairstyles that were everywhere at LFW. Simple, low buns and short, shaggy bobs can easily be achieved at home. Better yet, you’ll look like you’ve just stepped off the runway.
Here are the top LFW hair trends:
Knotted buns
Part your hair in the middle and slick your hair back with a lick of gel. Use a brush to even out any bumps. Create a knot by wrapping your hair around the bobble. Keep it au natural or jazz it up with some accessories.

Stack your accessories
If you want to elevate your classic bun, it’s time to invest in some hair accessories. From glizzy berrets at Tom Ford to hair clips galore at Alice and Olivia, it’s time to get stacking.
Brid N, Secret Spa hairdresser, gave her advice for re-creating this trend: “This trend suits all types of hair textures and personalities. From the bold and dramatic to the reserved and simple. It also helps us to reverse bad hair days! Opt for messy or sleek, low or high buns and add some texturising spray to give body. Just pop your accessories under, to the side or stacked in a braid for a more fierce statement! This trend elevates any hairdo with minimal effort. How many hair accessories is too many?”

Sharp shapes
The power of a bob never fails. The sharp cut oozes feminine glamour. Ulla Johnson gave us short bobs with lots of natural texture and full fringes. We love the low-maintenance, relaxed take on the classic cut.

How to nail your mani for 2022
An outfit is never complete without a fresh mani. This season it was all about minimal, classic and neutral tones.
Classic French Manicure
There is nothing more chic than a French mani, as seen at Michael Kors.
If you’re brave enough to try it yourself, Secret Spa nail tech, Eva M, is on hand to offer some helpful hints: “To achieve a French manicure at home by free hand, it's best to keep the brush still and roll just your fingers to get a nice curved line. You'll also have a steadier hand if you hold the brush between the thumb and little finger while resting your forefinger on the top of the cap. Finish with a thin layer of top coat and don't forget to block the colour!”

Barely there
Tory Burch and Ulla Johnson sent timeless nude nails down the runway. Nail artist Julie Kandalec upgraded the natural trend for the Rodarte show, taking inspiration from the many different shades of the sun. Think tan, yellows and apricots. Perfect for spring/summer 2022.

Abstract
We love the idea of abstract nails because neat and tidy art can take a while to perfect. At the Peter Do show, models showed off their black, funky French mani-inspired nails.
Secret Spa nail tech, Shereen S, has some helpful tips if you are attempting nail art: “Some nail art designs can be really detailed, but don’t let that put you off! Find a simple nail art design you like and practice! It doesn’t have to be perfect. For this style, use a base from OPI first. Then take the black polish brush making sweeping movements to the side of the nail. This design isn’t supposed to be perfect so don’t worry about it!”
