What is Botox?
Botox is a naturally occurring substance derived from Botulinum Toxin Type A.
It is injected into specific areas to target the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles treatment areas, through the relaxation of certain muscle groups.
It is delivered using an ultra-fine needle.
Does it hurt?
While there’s no getting away from the fact that Botox has to be injected, we use ultra-fine needles and are meticulous in the manner and areas that we inject.
This minimises any discomfort you might feel. People often describe the sensation as like feeling a pop as the tiny needle goes through the skin.
Where can I have anti-wrinkle treatments?
Botox is mostly delivered to the upper half of the face, although it can be administered to many other places where necessary.
There are three primary areas in the upper face where EffectDoctors target wrinkles: frontalis muscle, which causes forehead lines, the glabellar complex that causes lines between your eyes, and the orbicularis oculi muscle, which causes lines around your eyes.
Other treated facial areas are lines around the nose and mouth. It can also be delivered to the armpits to target excessive sweating known as hyperhidrosis.
How long does it take to work and how long does it last?
It takes about a week to reach full effect, although you will likely start to feel some benefit much sooner than that.
The duration of treatment varies from person to person, but we usually expect the treatment to last between three to five months.
You will most likely regain some muscle function in the treated areas before you notice the reappearance of fine lines.
What locations do you cover?
Currently we are offering our anti-wrinkle treatments in West and South West London.
Let us know if you'd like this treatment in your area.
Is it safe?
Botulinum Toxin certainly sounds scary, but it's nothing to be afraid of! Anti-wrinkle treatments have been safely delivered for many years and to thousands upon thousands of patients, with an excellent safety record.
It works locally to take effect with very little systemic absorption of the medication.
We don’t currently recommend the treatment for anyone that is pregnant or breastfeeding. Injections do carry the risk of some side effects; but these are likely to be mild and self-limiting.
They may include:
– Pain around the injection site
– Swelling, redness, bleeding or bruising around the injection site
– Headache
– Infection at the injection site, or fever and chills
There are some more serious but very rare side effects, which can be discussed with your practitioner at the time of consultation.
