If you want to know how to make a bikini wax last longer, or what not to do when those pesky hairs poke through, read our ultimate guide to prolonging your wax.
Let the hair grow
We know how frustrating it can be when new hairs start to appear on your smooth skin – but don’t be tempted to try and shave them straight away. Put the razor down!Shaving away new hair growth might seem like the easy answer, but the reality is that you’ll be back at square one, as shaving will make the hair appear darker and thicker. It can cause in-growing hairs and uncomfortable ‘razor burn’, so step away from the razor. It also creates hairs with blunt ends which contribute to the spiky sharp feel you want to avoid. If you’re wondering whether booking another waxing appointment is the answer, we’re sorry – but there is no magic bullet. Waxing when the hair is too short means the wax won’t grip the hair and remove it effectively. The results? Broken hairs, damaged follicles and an uneven wax. There is going to be a short window when you need to embrace the hair, but it’s much nicer to do that if they haven’t been shaved! For the best results, your hair should be between 3mm and 6mm long when you have your wax. This means you should leave roughly three weeks between waxes, so make a schedule and stick to it. One word of warning when planning your waxing timetable – try to avoid booking an intimate waxing appointment during your period, as during this time your body and skin feel more sensitive. If you simply cannot bear stray hairs then reach for the tweezers instead of the razor, and very carefully pluck out the odd rogue hair.Keeping to a regular waxing routine also means that the wax will be most effective, making it last as long as possible. Get your timing right for holidays and special occasions!
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Do we need to say it again? Regular exfoliation is key to prolonging the length of your wax and preventing breakouts and ingrown hairs. It really does help, so make it part of your beauty routine. We recommend a gentle exfoliator – there is no need for a harsh scrub – and a light buff is all that is required to remove any dead skin cells and clogged pores.Exfoliation will also encourage finer hair regrowth, which is good news for anyone wanting to make their body wax last that little bit longer.
Use an oil-free shower gel
If you use a body wash that contains oil, swapping it for an oil-free alternative can help to make your waxing last longer. Oil from shower gels can coat the skin, trapping hairs that can then become ingrown.Try a sensitive skin shower gel that will gently cleanse your body and keep it looking and feeling healthy without oils.
Use a hydrating moisturiser
Before your waxing appointment, prepare your skin with a hydrating moisturiser. If your skin is dry or flaky, it can cause the hair to break. This means that when the wax is applied it will not adhere right at the roots, causing faster regrowth and uneven results. Just don’t moisturise immediately before.Post-wax, a regular skincare routine is crucial in maintaining the results of your wax, and moisturising is the single most important thing to do daily on waxed skin. This applies to all areas of your body, from your legs and arms to intimate areas – your skin should always be well hydrated. It’s your secret weapon to smooth skin all the time.By keeping your skin hydrated between waxes, you’ll lock in moisture and calm, nourish, and restore your skin, ensuring it looks and feels soft and supple for longer. What’s more, if you’re in the stage between waxes where hair growth is at its max, moisturising will help it appear less obvious.
Wax all year round
We understand it’s tempting to only wax in the summer months when you want to show off your tan and hit the beach. And we get that in the winter months it’s tempting to cover up with thick tights or jeans – but to get the most from your wax, it’s important to maintain a regular waxing schedule.Getting waxed all year round is the key to longer-lasting results, and the more regularly you wax the less painful it becomes too! There’s also the reality that the more you wax, the less you have to in the long run.
Leave it to the experts
One of the best ways to make waxing last longer is to let the professionals take care of the job. Although you can purchase home waxing kits, they are not as effective as the professional-grade products used by waxing therapists and aestheticians. They really don’t do the trick as well and no matter how you contort yourself, you’ll struggle to get every patch of hair. Our mobile therapists perform waxing services in the comfort and privacy of your own home – so you won’t have to travel home with tell-tale red marks or wax residue on your skin.If you want to say goodbye to the hassle of shaving your legs, get an effective lip, chin, and brow wax, or take the plunge with a full Hollywood – our professional wax therapists will remove your unwanted body hair while you relax at home.
